Tanner Clark, CPA

Tanner graduated from Western Kentucky University with a bachelor’s in accounting in May of 2017. Shortly after, he began to work in the accounting field and obtained his CPA license. A dually licensed CPA in Kentucky and Tennessee, Tanner spent many years in the Nashville, TN area working in public accounting, specializing in all things small business, real estate, and individual taxation. In his free time, Tanner enjoys working out, running, spending time with his family and friends and cheering on the WKU Hilltoppers, Tennessee Titans, Cincinnati Reds and Memphis Grizzlies.

Hal Toomey, CPA

Hal graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1980 and soon after obtained his CPA license. Hal has nearly 50 years of accounting experience, both in the public and private sectors of the industry. Hal was a very successful firm owner, selling his practice to Tanner in October of 2024. Hal has been a trusted source of tax and financial accounting knowledge for many, many years in and around the South-Central Kentucky area. In his free time, he enjoys being outdoors, particularly at a local pay lake and spending time with his family—especially his grandkids.

Michelle Kinslow

Michelle graduated from the University of Kentucky with a bachelor’s in accounting in 1985 and soon after obtained her CPA license. Michelle has over 40 years of accounting experience, both in the public and private sectors in the industry. Michelle started working with Hal at the firm in 2015 and has been an extremely important part of its growth over the years. Michelle’s areas of expertise include anything involving payroll tax and bookkeeping, as well as preparing business and individual tax returns. In her free time, she enjoys going to the gym, reading, spending time at the pool and hanging out with her family—especially her grandkids.

History of Evergreen Tax Service

Hal’s family founded the Company in late 2011. Their goal was to provide quality bookkeeping and tax services. They specifically wanted to minister to those needing financial guidance and nurture small and start-up businesses within the community. Even today, the firm strives to help those wanting to open a business to get their dream started on the right foot.

Evergreen was initially located at 822 North Main in the old Young’s Building beside the old Walmart and behind McDonald’s. Primarily, it was Hal and his daughter Jessica that ran the operation. There were several part time employees in the beginning, but Hal decided to downsize focusing on tax and bookkeeping services, while his daughter answered the telephone and maintained customer service relations with clients.

Hal had a small payroll and bookkeeping service in place at the time. That was the side of the business that supported them outside of tax season. Starting with those clients, they grew to a point that Hal needed some more help and brought in Michelle Kinslow in 2015. She took over that side of the business so Hal could focus on the tax service. It flourished under her efforts. The three of Hal, Jessica and Michelle developed a solid, dependable accounting, payroll and tax service business. Each year the business grew, and Evergreen developed a solid reputation inside the Community.

In January 2017, Hal and his wife, Nina, purchased the existing building at 927 Brookhaven Road and relocated the office. People began noticing the location, and the business took off. The bookkeeping and payroll services continued to grow but the tax services doubled. They were amazed by the loyalty the community showed.

Evergreen literally grew from Hal preparing tax returns on his kitchen table to a Company that serves a large portion of the community and surrounding areas. Hal says that God has truly blessed his family and the company that they started. Hal and his family are truly thankful to the community for trusting and supporting them all these years.

In November of 2024, Tanner Clark purchased Evergreen Tax Service, where it became Clark CPA and Advisory Group. As the current owner, Tanner is so excited to continue to build on Hal and his family as well as Michelle’s work and service they have provided for so many years.
